Absinth Yellow The HJ Holden was built from October 1974-July 1976. The HJ was the first of three facelifts on the HQ shape, it got a squared off front with wrap around indicators front and rear. (indicators on HQ within the rear bumper, now up on guards) The old HK long rectangular speedo was back and high back front seats. The 350 Chevrolet engine was dropped leaving just the Aussie V8s The base model sedan was the Belmont, mid Kingswood and top Premier, Also available, the sporty 2 and 4 door Moanaro and longer bodied Statesman, in Deville and Caprice. Wagons, Utilitys and Vans were also available. Panel vans became quite popular with Street Machiners in Australia in the 70s, surfers also loved them. The local car manufacturers decided to cash in on this fad. They dressed them up with bright colours, stripes and decals. Interiors, engines and wheels were borrowed from their muscle car siblings. The Holden was called the Sandman, the Ford, the Sundowner and the Chrysler was called the Drifter. The Sandman option was available on Utilty and Panel Van. The Sandman got the Monaro dash, bucket seats, stripes and large 'Sandman' on the tailgate.
